Dr Tom Huang

Dr Tom Huang is an Oral and Maxillofacial Radiologist who has been working in comprehensive private radiology practices since 2010. He graduated from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Dental Science. 

After working in both the private and public dental sectors, he undertook a three-year specialist training program at the University of Queensland and graduated with a Doctorate of Clinical Dentistry specialising in Dento-Maxillofacial Radiology. This included training at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital, private radiology practices and the School of Dentistry.

Tom has previously held positions of visiting lecturer, clinical supervisor and external examiner at the University of Queensland, School of Dentistry and University of Western Australia, School of Dentistry. He has also been an examiner for the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons.

Tom has published papers in peer-reviewed journals and is a contributing author of the publication Atlas of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology (Wiley-Blackwell, 2017) and co-author of the Australian Dental Association's Practical Guide to Dental Radiology (2019).

Dr Melanie McAlpine

Dr McAlpine completed her undergraduate degree at The University of Western Australia in 1993 and graduated with Honours. After 2 years of private practice in Bacchus Marsh, Victoria she returned to Perth to undertake a Masters in Periodontology, also at UWA, completing this in 1999.

Immediately following graduation Melanie relocated to London, England where she enjoyed a combination of private specialist practice in Guildford, Surrey and a teaching position at The Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel.

Melanie returned to full time specialist practice in Perth in 2002 and established Western Periodontics as a stand alone practice in 2008. Melanie has a keen interest in the management of periodontal disease and its interaction with general health. She also has over 20 years experience in the placement of dental implants and uses the latest digital treatment planning techniques.

Dr McAlpine regularly lectures and holds study groups to ensure ongoing education in the wider dental community. She has been an active member of local and federal societies including the Australian Society of Periodontology, the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons, the Australian and New Zealand Academy of Periodontists, Women in Dentistry and the Australian Osseointegration Society.

Dr Lisa Bowdin

Dr Lisa Bowdin is currently a senior lecturer in Paediatric Dentistry at The University of Western Australia, and Consultant at Perth Children's Hospital.

She completed a Bachelor of Dental Science at The University of Western Australia, graduating in 2010. 

She was the winner of the Australasian Academy of Paediatric Dentistry Colgate recent graduate competition after presenting her essay on the potential applications of Hall Crowns in school dental programs.

Lisa completed her postgraduate studies in paediatric dentistry at the University of Western Australia, graduating with a Doctor of Clinical Dentistry (Paediatric Dentistry) in 2018.   Lisa has served for many years on the WA committee of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Paediatric Dentistry.
