Tom has been an oral and maxillofacial radiologist since 2009 and consults at Qscan
Radiological Clinics, Envision Medical Imaging and O-RAD (Online CBCT Reporting Service).
Tom graduated from The University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Dental Science. After
working in both the private and public dental sectors, he undertook a three-year specialist
training program at the University of Queensland and graduated with a Doctorate of Clinical
Dentistry specialising in Dento-Maxillofacial Radiology.
He has held positions of visiting lecturer, clinical supervisor and external examiner at the University of Queensland, School of Dentistry and the University of Western Australia, School of Dentistry. Tom has also presented topics in radiology and radiography internationally and continues to have research interests in Cone Beam Computed Tomography and Multislice CT. He was the Australian regional director for the International Association of Dento-Maxillofacial Radiology from 2016-2022 and president of the Australian Academy of Dento-Maxillofacial Radiology (2023-2024). Tom is also on the WA region committee of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons.
Tom is contributing author of the publication Atlas of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology (Wiley-Blackwell, 2017). He is also a co-author of the ADA’s Practical Guide to Dental Radiology (2019)
Dr. Mostafa Elkholy serves as Senior Lecturer and Discipline Lead of Endodontics at the University of Western Australia. He brings extensive academic and clinical expertise to his role, with over a decade of specialised experience in endodontic practice and education.
Dr. Elkholy completed his Bachelor of Dental Surgery at Cairo University in 2006, followed by specialized clinical endodontic training and a Master's degree in Endodontics from the same institution in 2012. He furthered his academic credentials with a PhD in Endodontics from Ain Shams University in 2018.
His academic career commenced in 2012 as an Instructor in the Department of Endodontics at The British University in Egypt, where he was subsequently promoted to Lecturer in 2018. Throughout his tenure, he demonstrated excellence in teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate students before joining the University of Western Australia.
Dr. Elkholy is an active contributor to the professional community, regularly presenting at national and international conferences and authoring peer-reviewed publications on endodontic techniques and materials.
Dr Melanie McAlpine completed her undergraduate degree with Honours at The University of Western Australia in 1993 followed by a Masters in Periodontology at the same university, in 1999. Melanie then moved to the UK where she enjoyed a combination of private specialist practice and a teaching position at The Royal London Hospital. Melanie returned to full time specialist Periodontal practice in Perth in 2002 and is the practice principal at Western Periodontics & Implants in Northbridge. She is also a Consultant Paediatric Periodontist at Perth Children’s Hospital where she has been involved in the cleft lip and palate program since her post-graduate years.
Professionally Melanie has been an active member of local and federal societies. She is a Fellow of the International College of Dentists and the Academy of Dentistry International. Melanie is also a Fellow of the International Team for Implantology (ITI) for whom she is the current regional co- ordinator for the ITI in Western Australia and an ITI Study Club director.
Dr Lisa Bowdin is currently a senior lecturer in Paediatric Dentistry at The University of Western Australia, and Consultant at Perth Children's Hospital.
She completed a Bachelor of Dental Science at The University of Western Australia, graduating in 2010.
She was the winner of the Australasian Academy of Paediatric Dentistry Colgate recent graduate competition after presenting her essay on the potential applications of Hall Crowns in school dental programs.
Lisa completed her postgraduate studies in paediatric dentistry at the
University of Western Australia, graduating with a Doctor of Clinical
Dentistry (Paediatric Dentistry) in 2018.
Lisa has served for many years on the WA committee of the Australian and
New Zealand Society of Paediatric Dentistry.
